Lakefield Ontario Has Small Town Charm … And Great Accommodation At The Village Inn
Lakefield is a beautiful little town nestled in the Kawartha Lakes region of Ontario. Just a short two hour drive from Toronto (and a mere ten minutes from Peterborough), Lakefield is best know as a community that typifies small town Ontario. It’s a historic little town and the business section is lined with quaint shops, perfect for a weekend of antique hunting.
The town features waterfront parks, restaurants and the streets boast many charming original homes and churches dating back to the 1800’s. Right on the border of cottage country, visitors to Lakefield can soak in the feeling of both the historic aspects of farm town life and you are only a few steps from the scenic Otonabee River as it meanders through town. The best of both worlds!
Until recently Lakefield lacked the kind of upscale accommodation that would attract weekend visitors and tourists. Well that problem has been solved with the opening of the Village Inn. Lakefield’s Village Inn is a new building on a site where the original hotel burned down a number of years ago. The architecture of the inn is definitely a fit for the community and it looks totally at home in it’s convenient downtown location. The ambiance at the Village Inn captures a feeling of days gone by … but includes all modern conveniences. The inn features 26 rooms and a number of these rooms have balconies looking down over the town. Furnishings are traditional and upscale provided by the award winning Lockside Trading Company. No detail has been overlooked. Mattresses by example
are double pillow top.
The Village Inn is a nice alternative and close enough to Peterborough for business travelers tired of typical motel & hotel accommodation. The inn also offers meeting facilities, a restaurant/pub, fitness room, high speed internet and the common areas are generous and welcoming. “The inn can accommodate up to 80 for meetings, retreats, receptions and other group functions, it’s a popular spot for weddings” says Susan Ramey - Manager of the inn.
The Village inn is the concept of Bonnie & Verne Hamilton. “We foresaw a need in the community for upscale accommodation – a place where couples could escape for a spa weekend or a romantic getaway” says Bonnie Hamilton - Owner. Bonnie & Vern are not strangers to the hospitality business. They also own the popular and nearby Pine Vista Resort (www.pinevista.com)
When you come to Lakefield take the time to wander the boardwalk along the Otonabee River. You can also hike or bike along miles of rail trail. And because the town is situated in the Trent Canal Waterway system you can even arrive by boat! There are many area attractions including shopping, spa, golf, museums and galleries. It is also interesting for winter sports lovers to note that Lakefield will be the new home of the Ontario Speed Skating Oval expected to be open for the winter of since 2009.
