Historic England - Top 5 Sites to Visit

1) TOWER OF LONDON - England's top historic attraction, the Tower of London is more than 1000 years old. Situated on the bank of the River Thames the Tower has a history intertwined with the greatest characters in British & World history. This is the very place where Anne Boelyn and Lady Jane Grey were beheaded, and is where the 'two princes' mysteriously disappeared during their imprisonment. Visitors can stand on the spot where Oliver Cromwell was executed and where Guy Fawkes was interrogated after his failed plot to blow up the Houses of Parliament in 1605. 2) YORK MINSTER - Located in the northern city of York, York Minster is the largest Gothic cathedral in England. First dating from around the 12th century, it is a staggering 524ft long by 249ft wide. At its highest the lantern tower reaches up to more than 230ft above the ground. Visitors can climb the central tower and be rewarded with breathtaking views over the city of York and beyond.
