University of International Relations in Beijing

As China is exerting an increasing impact upon the world, more and more people from all over the world are attracted to learn its language and experience the culture. As the political and cultural center of China, Beijing has welcomed thousands of international friends from all walks of life to start a cross-cultural journey. The Center for International Education of UIR (University of International Relations, Beijing) is a recommendation to foreign students who are looking for schools to improve their communicative competence in Chinese.

University of International Relations, Beijing has a history of 50 years. She trains professionals of international relations; it has academic trainings for bachelor degree, master degree and doctorate degree's. The Institute attaches great importance to establishing corporate relationships with universities overseas. It combines language learning relevant to subjects such as science of law, international economics and trade, information management and information system, science of administration and management, English, Japanese and French.

Center for International Education of UIR has been making efforts to provide mandarin programs for those who are interested in learning Chinese or improving their Chinese level. The center is located in the university area nearby Wu Dao Kou in Haidian District, where lots of international students enjoy their live and study in Beijing. The Center for International Education is 20 minutes walk to the subway system and the bus transportation system is also easy to reach.

In Center for International Education (CIE), class size is small, 3 to 10 students per class averagely. The experienced teachers are all native Chinese speakers with good training or education background in teaching Chinese to speakers of other languages. A placement test is given for students with Chinese foundation

 


before their courses start to decide their class level and the suitable textbooks. Textbooks and teaching materials are chosen with consideration for the requirements of students. Feedbacks from students are always important in assessing teachers and teaching methods.

Students who have successfully passed their exams and met the requirements of UIR will be given certificates according to the categories of their study.

Center for International Education (CIE) is providing mandarin courses from 2 weeks to one year. Regular courses are given 8:30 to 12:30 in the morning Monday to Friday 20 hours per week. Advanced intensive courses run 30 hours per week including the language practice class in the afternoon.

For one semester and one year students, electives are also provided to strengthen their language skills in listening and speaking as well as enrich their knowledge about Chinese culture. Language skill electives include Audio-Visual Chinese, basic journalistic Chinese, etc. Culture electives may offer Taichi Quan (Chinese Shadow Boxing), Chinese painting, Chinese calligraphy, Chinese songs, etc.

CIE residence is in the same location as CIE office and teaching building. Thus, if you take CIE residence as accommodation, there will be no need to travel. Each room has one or two single beds, private bathroom with 24 hours hot water, study tables, chairs, telephone, TV, refrigerator, and air conditioning. The residence is also providing hotel-like services including calling services and room cleaning service. Internet is available with extra payment each month. Each floor has a laundry and a kitchenette, and besides the residence is a canteen and grocery store.
